About Soap Shoes

A brief history of Soap Shoes

In 1997 Chris Morris invented the Soap Shoe. A shoe that incorporated a 'grind plate' into the arch of the soul, allowing people to slide on hand railings and other smooth surfaces. Other companies such as Salomon and Rollerblade have made their own imitations but Soap Shoes still remain the original grinding shoe. The shoes have developed steadily over the years, 1999 seeing the introduction of the Soap Broadslide and Saloman Mr. Wilson grind shoes which were the first to incorporate full length soul plates into their design giving users the ability to achieve a larger array of tricks. Recent years have seen the popularity of Soap Shoes in decline with a string of new owners trying unsuccessfully to revive the brand. Soap's latest resurrection under the guiding eye of Heeling Sports Limited (HSL), the company responsible for the popular Heelys shoe, resulted in a short lived revival before shoe sales dropped off and HSL announced that they were to discontinue production. As things currently stand, HSL have announced that, due to increased demand they will shortly be resuming production of a limited number of Soap Shoes styles.
